| Retail
Keeping alive tradition is as much a value with us Group as is new thought and progressive action. Way back in 1965,we made a small but symbolic foray into retail with the takeover of Kolkata’s legendary tea room, Flurys. While retaining its old-world charm, we contemporarised Flurys’ design, menu and service in 2004,
Relaunching it as a buzzing European style café. In the 1980s, we recognised the opportunity to enter book retail with the acquisition of another iconic Kolkata landmark, Oxford Book and Stationery Company established in 1919. Rebranded as a contemporary bookstore chain, Oxford Bookstore has become a literary epicentre in each of its 30 plus locations, spanning India’s metros and secondary/tertiary cities. In the near future, we will have 50 stores in India and in prominent markets overseas. The Cha Bar, established in 2000, also has at its very core, revival. Through it, we have introduced tea drinking into the urban environment by leveraging our existing businesses in tea and hospitality.
Apeejay Oxford Bookstore
Oxford Bookstore is the only completely integrated online offline bookstore in the country with access to 6 million titles worldwide. www.oxfordbookstore.com provides special online shopping benefits and is the only of its kind, hosted out of India. The story of Oxford Bookstore began over 80 years ago in Park Street in the city of books – Kolkata or Calcutta, as it was known then. In 1995 to commemorate its platinum anniversary the store was recreated as Oxford Bookstore – Gallery by Apeejay Surrendra Group. In its new avatar it became a contemporary, multi- dimensional experience in keeping with the international trends. The new facilities included well-stocked and well-researched book sections, India's first Alternative Art Gallery and top of the line amenities and services. It had reinvented itself to celebrate the "word". Today, Oxford Bookstore is present in

Flurys
Flurys the legendary tearoom on
fashionable Park Street in Kolkata was founded in 1926 by Mr. and Mrs.
J Flury. Presenting fine European traditional confections, it soon became
a popular meeting place for all ages. It introduced the city and many
generations to authentic Swiss and International delicacies. The tearoom
was known far and wide for its exotic cakes, creamy pastries, rich puddings
and perhaps the best Swiss chocolates outside the European continent,
and in no small measure to the relaxed and cheerful atmosphere that it
provided. Flurys was reopened in December 2004 with a fresh design that
recalls the 1930s, yet retaining a sense of timelessness. The old world
charm and grandeur of European Café has been contemporatised to
create a relaxed meeting place.
